Bhutas are spirits of various deities, including some divas expected to provide protection against invaders and robbers, the elements (including fire, storm, flooding, drought, and disease), and ensure the fertility of the soil, livestock, and human population. sacrifices, offerings, and prayers were offered to both gods and denizens of the netherworld (demons/evil spirits/ghosts) to propitiate them.
